On Thursday 28 January 2016, Tuks FM joined Tuks Reach Out and Give (RAG) at the University of Pretoria’s piazza for an activation. Tuks FM provided sound and presenters for the day. Students were given the opportunity to win tickets for the TuksRAG procession and benefit concert taking place on Saturday 30 January 2016 on the University of Pretoria’s LC de Villiers Sports Grounds.

Tuks FM set up a stall at the TuksRAG market area on Saturday to hand out buttons and to tell students more about joining Tuks FM as a volunteer. Many parents and students visited the stall to speak to the volunteers about the station.

The TuksRAG procession kicked off at 10:30 and hundreds of spectators lined up around the streets of the LC de Villiers Sports Grounds to get a glimpse of the elaborate, animated floats. This year’s theme was Going On Holiday and the residences did not disappoint with tropical and winter themed floats.

At 12:00, University of Pretoria students made their way to the RAG Farm for a benefit concert featuring Desmond and the Tutus, DJ Vigilante and Kid X, Jerry and The Bandits, Twins on Decks and DJ Killswitch. Entrance was R60 at the gate and R50 online. Maroela and Magrietjie Residence were crowned the winners of the procession with their Around the World in 80 Days float.

Ahmed Abdelmoniem, Tuks FM volunteer and member of the Vividus Men Day House, said, “I was anxious waiting for the results of the winning residence after the procession but the benefit concert was a good way for us to unwind after a week of hard work.”
