Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP) staff visited and delivered donations to Luvuyo Orphanage Home in Soshanguve on Mandela Day. Hotdogs and parcels were prepared for the visit and further donations included non-perishable food, clothing, toys and school shoes to the children of Luvuyo Home.

Nthabiseng Mokoena* is the eldest of three children from her household. At the age of 19, she is faced with the responsibility of raising her siblings after they were orphaned at a young age. They lost their parents to illness, and have no grandparents to rely on either. Last year, she completed her Matric, passing with excellent results. She received a scholarship to study further, which pays for her tertiary education.

Unfortunately, Nthabiseng does not currently live with her siblings. She is yet to attain custody of her 16-year-old sister and 10-year-old brother. Fortunately, however, her siblings reside in Luvuyo Home where they are taken care of, and permanently housed. Luvuyo Home was established 14 years ago and is a day care facility which works closely with state social workers to identify and provide shelter for vulnerable children. Run mainly with the help of volunteers and elderly pensioners, the orphanage is a non-profit organisation that is currently home to 30 orphans and vulnerable children. They mainly support destitute siblings and abandoned children from in and around their community.

Nthabiseng no longer lives at the orphanage and was fortunate enough to leave once she was awarded a scholarship. Her immediate plans include completing her studies and attaining custody of her siblings, raising them in the family home left for them by their parents and presently leased out.

“We would like to extend appreciation for your time and contribution on Mandela Day. We highly appreciate your kindness. May you continue to be a blessing to the world,” said Lindiwe Nokwali, owner of Luvuyo Home.

The children and staff of Luvuyo Home received the Enterprises UP delegation with great enthusiasm and gratitude. For 67 minutes, Enterprises UP staff entertained and played with the young children who were very excited to receive visitors. The initiative was a great success and a special thank you is extended to everyone who gave of their time and money.
