The Department of Mining Engineering, University of Pretoria (UP) recently released their 2019/2020 Annual Review.
The publication reflects on the advancement and performance achieved by the Department during the 2019/2020 reporting year. It also features the recent accomplishment for the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT) being ranked as the top School of Engineering in South Africa and Africa, according to the Best Global Universities for Engineering ranking of US News.
The COVID-19 pandemic presented the department with an opportunity to find innovative ways to maximise on training offerings and advisory services as relief to the state of disruption.
The publication gives a detailed look into research projects conducted and short courses provided by Enterprises University of Pretoria (Enterprises UP), which proved to have made a major contribution to the Department’s overall achievements. The year saw the launch of the Course for Managers in Risk Management (c-MiRM), the short course in Leadership Capacity-building, Programme in Technical and Operational Surface Mining Excellence and the short course in Mine Closure and Land Rehabilitation, which all showed market relevance in the mining industry at large.
