The scope of practice has been amended and this course presents content on more dental services than you were originally trained to perform. Learning Outcomes
  • place temporary fillings as an emergency measure
  • complete temporary cementing of inlays, crowns and bridges
  • place glass ionomer cement on sensitive dentin or cervical abrasion lesions
  • place soft linings in dentures as tissue conditioners
  • perform orthodontic cephalometric tracings
  • relieve trauma caused by intra- and extra-oral appliances, e.g. cutting of distal ends of arch wires
  • place and remove attachments and bands
  • place pre-activated orthodontic appliances
  • maintain appliances
  • remove sutures
  • place and remove gingival packs
  • administer applicable local anaesthesia as appropriate to the scope of the profession of oral hygiene, and
  • take cytological smears.

Entry Requirements
Prospective delegates must be registered Oral Hygienists with the Health Professionals Council of South Africa. Proof of this must be submitted with the application.
