Brief Description
The Knowledge and Information Management for Public Sector Managers short course provides you with requisite skills to enhance your knowledge-based management capabilities by means of both an academic and practical approach to knowledge and information management in the public sector. The course focuses on topics of decision making and policy advice, implementing information systems based on needs and development analyses, as well as contributing to the creation and sharing of knowledge in the public sector environment. This course is aligned with the Senior Management Service (SMS) Competency Framework in order to acquire the appropriate process competency skills set on a senior manager level.
Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing the course, you will be able to expertly manage a public service component and set the tone as a knowledge leader, pioneer, evaluator and guide be able to base decisions and policy advice to the executive authority based on reliable information and analyses be able to critically evaluate and apply information from the environment of the component structure the component as a learning organisation develop and manage information systems in the component, and develop knowledge and skills in the cross-cutting areas of process competencies including knowledge management, service delivery innovation, problem solving and analysis, client orientation and customer focus (Batho Pele) and communication.Credits earned from successful completion of this course is recognised to afford delegates benefits of portability, mobility and progression. On successful completion of this course, the participant will receive credits required for the Public Administration subject, as part of an undergraduate programme, provided the participant meets the admission requirements of the University of PretoriaThe SPMA Postgraduate Committee will consider exemption (credits) on some of the modules, towards the course work MPA programme offered at the SPMA on condition that the candidate meet with the minimum requirements as stated above.

Entry Requirements
Prospective delegates should at least be in a manager position in the South African public sector with a minimum of three years managerial experience be aspiring towards a managerial position be in possession of at least a three year qualification, or be in possession of a Bachelors degree in order to pursue admission into the Masters degree in Public Administration (MPA).
