Brief Description
The Mammography Training Course provides you with practical skills and insights to perform highest-quality mammography examinations, maintain the highest standard of practice and deliver optimal service to patients who are referred to these specialised radiographic facilities. Imaging modalities have seen progressive change that has revolutionised mammography over the past few years, and this course aims to update you with recent developments by looking at the anatomy, physiology and pathology of the breast anew, communication skills when dealing with patients, planning and commissioning new imaging facilities, performing examinations and assisting with invasive procedures, as well as medico-legal responsibilities and quality assurance.
Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing the course participants should be able to:
  • determine the relative and absolute indicators that place a woman at higher than average risk of breast cancer
  • understand and apply the essential components of a complete patient history
  • distinguish suspicious findings that require further diagnostic workup
  • apply the principles of radiation safety for the patient and staff, occupational health and safety, infection control
  • explain the accessory components of the mammography equipment (conventional and digital), detailing their unique design and function in producing quality images
  • describe the recommended intervals for breast and mammographic examinations, and
  • define quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) and discuss their relationship to excellence in mammography.
