Brief Description
The Occupational Hygiene Legal Knowledge short course will provide you with the required legal and working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993 (and relevant amendments) in order to prepare and apply for Approved Inspection Authorities (AIA) and/or SANSISO 17020 certification from the Department of Labour. The course is aimed at occupational hygienists, medical technologists and legal practitioners, and covers topics of legal terminology and processes, asbestos and lead regulations, environmental regulations for workplaces, regulations for hazardous chemical substances, noise-induced hearing loss regulations, as well as facilities regulations in preparation of the national AIA examination on legislation.
Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing this course, you will obtain legal and working knowledge on the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993. You will also be able to
  • prepare the necessary documentation to apply for AIA certification at the Department of Labour
  • develop an approach to obtain SANS 17020 certification
  • understand basic legal terminology and process followed in South Africa
  • understand Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993

An online pre-test will be written on the last day to prepare the delegates for the national examination, to be written on the Saturday following the weeks contact sessions.
Entry Requirements
Prospective delegates should preferably have experience as an Occupational Hygiene Assistant, Technologists or Hygienist.
